Review: Sew - Issue 47 (May 2013)

Sooooo, this issue hot the shops on Friday and comes with a free 'fabric stack' and ideas book.  The fabric stack is actually one piece of fabric with three different prints on it, which is a little disappointing, but I'm sure I can find a use for it.

Anyway, on to that magazine . . .

This is supposed to be the Weddings & Special Occasions issue, so has loads of wedding-themed projects, as well as some summer wardrobe ideas (if some ever makes an appearance).

I really like the tunic dress, and the pattern is available as a free download.  The exposed zip is a bit of a godsend, having argued with an invisible zip just recently - I think I have it mastered, or something near mastered, but a normal zip will be so much easier.  I like the contrasting trim idea and the coordinating belt.  There is also a coordinating tunic top (all in a bit of a nautical-style), with alternative pattern ideas.

I love the fascinators, which look pretty simple to make and are easily adaptable to match any outfit.  Both feature lovely net detailing in two very different ways.  My favourite is the gorgeous veil created  in one of them.  I could be tempted to attempt one of these for a wedding I have next month, but I'm not sure that I am more of a hat person . . .

Following on from this is a feature in millinery, which was very interesting to read, as it is something I am developing quite an interest in.

I also really like the luxe bolster cushion, which would look great in a vintage-themed room - I'm slowly working on my house for this.  Anyway, should I find myself with enough spare pennies to get some nice luxury fabrics, I may just have a go at this.  The dug-egg tones they have used in the magazine are so pretty.
